We may add a few questions together since many will have the same answer
things that can happen if you get your lip pierced
Things that can happen with a lip piercing is different for everyone, but I will try to run through some things that can happen. This is for a piercing done by a industry professional with proper placement / implant grade jewellery / up to date aftercare methods
1. Nothing but a well healing piercing
2. Natural swelling
3. downsizing jewellery under your piercers instructions
1. over swelling (people swell differently, if you are having an issue, see your piercer)
1. piercing can over swell and the jewellery may sink into the lip
2. Gum damage due to bar rubbing on gums
3. tooth damage from biting the jewellery
We have a aftercare section for both the body and the oral part of lip piercings you can check out. I have left out the infection part of this answer purely because there is more to getting an infection other than just getting a lip piercing.
sore piercing, my tragus piercing is swollen and sore after 2 weeks, my nose piercing has gone red and sore, my nose piercing is pussing and red, how to treat irritated piercings, after you get a cartilage piercing is it normal to be red and sore
Tenderness and pain is an unfortunate side part of getting pierced BUT we like to have a piercing be as painless as possible when getting it done AND during the healing times. Tenderness can be caused by many things but we find people touching the piercing, sleeping on the piercing, knocking or bumping the piercing and clothing applying pressure to the area are just a FEW things that can lead to excess pain or tenderness. Getting to the root of the issue is the best way to remove the problem.
The best way to help an irritated piercing is to figure out why it is irritated in the 1st place
A piercing being red for around 48 hours isn't amazing, but its not something to be too worried about. A piercing site that is still red after two weeks, that is something we want to sort out as soon as possible. We would suggest seeing your piercer to try and determine whats happening.
Reasons a piercing site could be red and sore after two weeks is
- knocking or touching the piercing
- incorrect aftercare for your body ( not everyone is suited to certain aftercare methods)
- Metal allergy
- outside irritations like makeup, facewash, water quality, hair sprays
- Sickness, stress
14g plugs bleeding, will my tongue bleed when i get it pierced
Fresh piercings bleeding in the 1st 24 hours is fairly common (it always depends on how much of course).
Healed piercings bleeding can be caused by many things like knocking it, touching it, dried crust tearing the skin when moved.
You can help bleeding by
- applying pressure to the area with a fresh tissue or gauze
- applying ice to the area (5 minutes on, 5 minutes off)
If you are worried, please contact your piercer
why is my belly button piercing all the sudden swollen, why does your skin swell after you've had a piercing, swollen ear helix piercing pushed out, should i use ice on a piercing, my belly piercing is swollen, how to treat swollen cartilage piercing, cartilage piercing swollen and sore
Swelling is a natural response to trauma and everyone will swell at a different rate or time frame. Fresh Oral piercings tend to swell naturally so applying ice to the area will help and also taking an anti-inflammatory tablet may also help.
If you feel that the jewellery you are wearing is becoming to tight and not allowing the area to breathe then we suggest seeing a piercer asap to prevent the jewellery sinking into the area.
why do i need qualifications to be a body piercer, cheap body modification
Thats kind of like asking why you need qualifications or training to be a nurse. Skin penetration is serious business and you can put yourself and others at risk if you do not have the proper training
Lumps and Bumps
white bump around tongue piercing
This is usually caused by jewellery to long for the area (usually a bar to accommodate for swelling) or from knocking or playing with the piercing. We would suggest seeing your local piercer for a solution, usually a proper fitted bar will fix that right up.
what do i do if i have a bump on my nose piercing should i use alcohol, red lump belly piercing, red bump under piercing, how to treat piercing bumps
Trauma lumps are usually caused from just that, trauma. Knocking it, playing with it, catching it, sleeping on it and sometimes even just getting a piercing can cause this.
Just because you have a lump does NOT mean its infected so don't panic. See a local professional piercer. One thing we hear a lot is people calling them keliods, just because you have a bump, does not mean it is a keliod scar. Piercers are not doctors and should not be diagnosing you.
when applying sea salt to nose piercing do you use warm or cold water?, septum piercing cleaning, septum piercing aftercare, nose piercing care, how to heal face anchor piercing, how to clean your septum, how to clean a tongue piercing, clean piercing with cold salt water

what if your body rejected your piercing once will it do it again
Rejection can be an issue with body piercings and there are many many factors that can play into a perfect piercing starting to reject. Things like trauma to the area (knocking or catching), stress or even sickness.
Other issues can be due to low quality jewellery, bad placement, unsuitable anatomy, bad after care
We would suggest seeing a piercer asap if you are worried about a piercing rejecting but to answer the search question, it really depends what caused the rejection in the 1st place. If you can narrow that down, a professional piercer should be able to let you know if its likely to happen again.
